Communicating complex science ideas to the public is one of the great challenges of our time. With so much fake news and propaganda out there, and the press and social media oversimplifying interesting moral questions, so the need is for researchers and universities to clearly explain the choices we have and the evidence out there.
Most universities are failing in this task, since they use dense language, poor visuals and no storytelling. This workshop – combined with the BOKU cell-researchers’ Christmas party, will look at the options for academics to reach a wider audience, using metaphors, personalising their own research journey, better photography and new ways to go viral.
